You have a project to add medical air to an existing area alarm panel that has oxygen and vacuum . This existing area alarm panel does not meet the 2012 edition of the 99 code. See below:

(Section # 5.1.9.3.5  Area alarm panels for medical gas systems shall provide visual and audible indication in the event a mismatch occurs between the transducer(s) and its associated circuit board(s).)

If the upgrade kit for the medical air alarm is same brand, type, vintage, style and from the same manufacturer as the existing alarm and works the same way as the existing area alarm panel.

Can it pass the requirement of 2012 edition of the 99 code?

Good question my initial thinking is no you have to upgrade the entire alarm.

I agree with Don.  I think you would :

(a): have to update the entire panel, or

(b): have to leave that panel undisturbed and install a separate panel compliant with the NFPA 2018 just for the air (which is an ugly thing to contemplate).

    The "A" answer is (a).

Based on our meeting last week I would say replacement is probably in the cards and the right move, that is to keep JC happy.
