Wanted to get comments on the continued use of the MEGA 1 series sensor installed in standard console back boxes and if that meets the following:

5.1.8.2.3 All pressure-sensing devices and main line pressure gauges downstream of the source valves shall be provided with a gas-specific demand check fitting to facilitate service testing or replacement.

    or

5.1.9.1 General. All master, area, and local alarm systems used for medical gas and vacuum systems shall include the following:

    (15) Alarm switches/sensors installed so as to be removable

    Thanks

Gas specific pin indexing with a back check - does that satisfy these two aspects of the code?

The back box is safety keyed and gas specify to the front assembly plus is a demand check. So Yes. In my opinion it's was good from day one and today.

Al my thoughts match yours, I was called into a facility for my opinion as they were written up by another testing group and have been mandated by the main hospital to replace all their units.

I feel this is unnecessary they should probably go ahead and start budgeting for these replacements over the next 1 to 3 years as the product is discontinued and we are having a tough time getting new sensors for some of the gases.  Fortunately we continue to have enough units being replaced that we have a decent amount of used devices to utilize as temporary solutions until the new alarms can be ordered and replaced.
