Zone Valve Box Location

    We have TWO medical gas and vacuum zone valve boxes for a PACU / RECOVERY area, both are located within the department area.


    All the patient spaces (i.e. the rooms with the patient bed) are supplied with a sliding glass door.


    One zone valve box is located in the wall outside the patient room, to the left of the sliding glass door.


    The second zone valve box is located in the wall outside the patient room straight across from the sliding glass door.


    So, are glass doors a code problem. ?

    I guess the question is what is the fire rating of the glass door and does it have a fire rating label of 1hour? If it does, I would have to say it meets the wall intervening requirements of a zone valve.

    The one hour fire rating for doors, walls, ceilings, windows, glass items in regards to the zone valve boxes required per NFPA 99 Code, is listed in what code section of NFPA 99 (2012 Edition)?

    I see where you are going with this. The 1 hour fire resistance rating only pertains to central supply system or storage locations. A wall relative to a Zone Valve is ambiguous in NFPA 99. 


    Going back to your original comment, if the glass requirements satisfy NFPA 101, it would pass unless you have reason to believe it is a safety risk.
