TIA 1696 to Delete Examples of Category Spaces

There is a TIA proposal to eliminate the examples of category spaces in Annex A.  They are found on page 160 in the 2021 edition of NFPA 99. Chad implies that they don't want to steer the reader into thinking that these examples are the only way that a type of room could be categorized.

We have medical gas installers trying to make sense of this code. I see no harm in keeping the historical descriptions in the annex with the disclaimer that these examples could include such spaces as . . .

It seems to be harder with each edition to come up with examples of Category 2 spaces. They seem to force most either up to 1 or down to 3.

The closing date for Comments is April 20, 2023.

A category 2 space or facility is to be installed, designed and tested as a category 1 space or facility.

    WITH only 3 exceptions:

    1) no requirement for an EOCS

    2) only one master alarm panel is required

    3) the medical air and medical vacuum source equipment can be a simplex unit

The information in the ANNEX (in the older days, the Appendage)

IS NOT A PART OF THE REQUIREMENTS of the NFPA DOCUMENT.

    Its for informational purposes only.

But the annex information or history written to date, and in my opinion only,

is very much outdated, poor and lackluster. I vote to remove the confusion.
